Culture & historyWanaka
The discovery of gold in the 1870's brought a rush to the area. Once the gold rush faded, the main source of income was high country farming. Today, tourism is the towns new gold - an endeavour that requires the environment to be looked after and maintained to stay picture perfect.

Treble Cone
Treble Cone was formed as a private company in 1968. In 1976 construction began including ticket offices, cafeteria, toilets and medical aid. Between 1995 and 2012 development continued with a lot of money invested into the ski area and new lifts put in and existing lifts upgraded. In 2012 the OnepassNZ joint lift and activity pass for Wanaka was introduced. In 2013 Treble cone was awarded New Zealand's Best Ski Resort at the World ski Awards.
