Shiga Kogen is by far the largest ski resort in Japan, with 21 interlinked ski areas and about 70 lifts, gondolas, ropeways and tows all on one lift ticket! Shiga covers a huge area and offers a great diversity of natural terrain. Snow conditions and quality are superb and Shiga has one of the longest seasons in Japan - late November to early May. A shuttle bus system running non-stop between resorts (included in lift pass) can also be used for getting between resorts. Plenty of terrain to choose from makes it easy to find the powder stashes! Yakebitaiyama is the most modern of all the resorts. Yakebitai and the adjoining resort Okushiga have many wide and long runs as well as some great tree skiing. Adjoining Yakibtaiyama is the best and most central location.
Shiga hosted the Women's Downhill, Slalom, Super G and both Snowboarding events during the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympic Games.
Abundant snow fall, fine powder snow, the latest facilities including a speedy lift operation system and its big scale have made Shiga Kogen one of the worlds top ranked ski resorts. Owing to the massive expanse of skiable terrain, there is something for all standards of skiers and riders at Shiga Kogen.
